Ultratrace analysis laboratories have been set up at National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University ， and the National Institute of Environmental Analysis. These provide testing support for the EPA in dioxin and dioxin-like compounds from various environmental matrices. The testing equipment in these laboratories includes GC/MSD and High Resolution Gas Chromatography/High Resolution Mass Spectrometry. The EAL has already established the analytical technology necessary to investigate dioxin in such matrices as incinerator flue gas, fly ash, soil, sediment, and fish. International interlab performance testing has shown that EAL's data quality has now reached global standards.

The results of routine testing of dioxin emissions from larger waste incinerators will be used for to improve the incinerators. In addition, EAL is aggressively monitoring environmental background concentrations of dioxin. Surveys of the dioxin content of sediment and fish have already been conducted in the Tanshui River ， Touchien River, and Putz River. Starting from 1999 ， the dioxin content of air and soil is also to be measured. The EAL not only develops testing techniques for environmental sampling ， but also contracts out scientific research projects to establish testing techniques for dioxin in biological samples .
